life lessons

now, i've discovered that there are many lessons to be learned at work, and i've decided to share them with you.

1. people hate to wait (i know this is a no-brainer, but at my work we wait for very very valid reasons! and we even give people something to do while they wait!)
2. people respect chains (or velvet cords), but not turnstiles. i'm not sure what's wrong with the turnstiles.
3. people get a great deal of enjoyment out of watching someone do more than one job. (see, we rotate every hour, so several times a day i encounter the same people, who without fail make a comment about how i've shown up or "how did you get here?" (duh, the same way you did))
4. (in abstract terms for the gentlemen among us) sometimes the doorbell rings and you think, oh, aunt flo must be here. so you run to the door but no one's there. that's because aunt flo sucks. even when she's not there.
5. grade school classes are worthless. case and point: me and my 8 or so years of French.
me: how many people do you have in your group?
lady: i speak french. bonjour.
me: bonjour. (pause while i struggle with the language) je ne parle pas francais.
and that's all i could come up with. i couldn't figure out how to say "how many" or any such useful phrase.

that's all for now.

i forgot to mention that overly large uniform shirts, while annoying and pretty pointless, actually have a good use: holding stuff that isn't suited for small pockets, like food, books, or tampons.

BTW, it's "case in point". And the French would be "combien". I think I love you too.

also, i've learned that it's good to have a manager around if the guests start getting testy about the wait. if the manager is there, i probably won't be the one spit on.

(i wasn't, but another tour guide was. i kid you not)
