computer question
so i just bought this computer game, whose nature i shall not divulge lest i seem like more of a geek, and i installed it but it won't play because it "could not find any compatible Direct3D devices with the required capabilities. Make sure you have current drivers for your video card."
so the question is, to anyone (jeff) who is familiar enough with the wily ways of the wires, what do i do? microsoft help sucks.

go to the page of the manufacturer of your computer and find the latest video card drivers. if you're not updated, download them. if you are, uninstall and reinstall them. that's all i've got.
ya i don't think it is a driver issue, but definetly do that(check system profile for what kind of card you have) Post what kind of card you have here(including the memory size) and then look on the side of the box for the game you have and make sure you meet the required specs. sounds to me like you might need a more powerful video card. because i am betting chance are you own a dell or an HP from a few years ago and you have a low end geforce mx or something, and well if the game is anywhere near recent you probably can't run it.
If your video card in fact does meet the requirments, go into the device manager and remove your primary display adapter, reboot and reinstall the video card software that should have come with your computer, or you card if you bought it sepereatly. Then do like anonymous said and get the newest drivers online. If that doesnt work, call the company who makes the card or who sold you the computer. Pretty much all documented help is worthless, but i have used msft phone tech support before(4 different times with my xbox) and they have fixed my problem or answered my question perfectly every time. Oh and whatever you do, DO NOT ask someone at best buy for help on any computer matter, they are certified retarted. appolgies for the people who work their who actually know shit, but the majority of you guys suck majorly.
i love how everyone always bashes jeff and talks about how much they hate him but then pretend like they are on good terms with him becase they need computer help. why would everyone complain about blocking jeff blah blah if we obviously need him because none of us know how to do anything. i mean this is like the fourth post asking jeff for help.
Well my usefullness declines everyday. I have never actually used Windows XP so walking you through step by step would require me going and logging into someone elses computer in my house. Pretty soon you'll ask a question that I won't know the answer to for whatever reason, and I will be to lazy to figure it out, and or look it up on the internet.
The best places for computer help are knowledgable messagbe board(read:NOT the johnny depp fan sie forum). I visit 3 daily including one of the largest gaming communities and that ammounts to some 40,000 or so people available to help me.
And you people say I have no friends.
this is actually the first that asked specifically for his help and i don't think that Anna was very involved in the jeff-bashing. just pointing that out.
actually its like the fourth and i think everyone on this page was involved in jeff bashing.
why does the jeff bashing matter? we've gone through this already and at some point or another just about everyone here has been bashed or bashed someone... this is a total opinion thing and used alot for ranting (see previous posts about work, parties, etc) so i don't really think the argument of who has bashed jeff or who hasn't matters.. esp. of this post which was about a computer question which was answered on like the second comment
Actually it wasnt really answered, becuause if she gather what I am actually suggesting she do based purely on my comment then she is probably smart enough to figure out the problem on her own. It is hard to fix the problem when I have to wait 2 days for information that takes 2 seconds to locate.
ok, i'm not pretending any sort of unfounded good terms with anyone here, laura. if jeff felt offended by previous comments of mine, he didn't have to make a suggestion.
by the way, i have windows me. not xp.
as far as i can tell, i have no cards installed at all. that may be where the problem is coming from...
