happy independence day!

here's my annual july 2 tirade. i usually make it to anyone who sticks around long enough, so that means about 2 people have heard it. you may remember it from us history, but one can never be sure. so here it is, the real independence day.

on july 2, 1776, after more than 80 drafts, thomas jefferson read the declaration of independence to the first continental congress as we today know it. president , john hancock, and his secretary, charles thomson, signed it. two days passed. nothing happened. note that- nothing happened on july 4 (it was noted, however, that jefferson bought ladies' handgloves and a thermometer). it's wasn't until one month later on august 2 that the rest of the delegates signed the document. so i would like to reclaim july 2 as the true independence day and then august 2 as another day to have a party. which i will.

ok, just had to say that. and by the way, John Adams is my homeboy.

works cite:
mccullough, john adams, simon & schuster. new york: 2001; pg. 178 (good read for anyone who cares about america)
